I am sharing this in hopes that this might help other owners with injured chickens. By no means do I claim to have done everything right in the chronicles below. This blog has been done with positive intent. Negative and unhelpful comments will be removed. It seems to be hard to find a chicken vet. As food animals, the FDA has rules about what can happen to animals in the food chain. These rules put vets in an awkward position when people invite food animals into their families. A vet could lose his/her license if they prescribe something to a pet rooster but then that pet is given away and becomes a crock pot rooster. (Sadly this is often the fate of roosters.) There is not much money to be had being a chicken vet when many farms/ranches would rather cull for food and/or to avoid big vet bills. For this reason tribal knowledge on chicken husbandry seems to be easier to come by than a chicken vet. I am not a vet though I do have a wildlife biology degree so I guess that’s somethin...
